Tendinopathies – once called a Tendinitis, refers to an irritation, aggravation or pain associated with the part of our muscles known as the tendon.
Tendons are the strong connective tissues that anchor muscles to bones. They help transmit the force needed to move your body. When overloaded or misused — whether through sport, work, repetitive actions, overuse and even age, the tendon can become irritated or damaged, leading to persistent pain and dysfunction.

❌ Myth: “I just need to rest until it goes away.”
🟢 Fact: Complete rest often worsens the problem. Tendons need load — the right amount and type — to heal.
❌ Myth: “I need surgery if it hasn’t improved in a few weeks.”
🟢 Fact: Most tendinopathies respond well to conservative, non-surgical care when properly managed.
❌ Myth: “Stretching will fix it.”
🟢 Fact: Stretching may aggravate the tendon. A targeted loading and strengthening approach is more effective
Tendinopathies often cause persistent, localised pain near a joint, especially during or after activity. You might notice stiffness in the morning, pain when loading (e.g. walking upstairs, gripping, running), or discomfort that lingers despite rest. An osteopathic assessment can help confirm the diagnosis and rule out other causes.
Don’t delay! Ask us if shockwave is right for you!
In most cases, NO. A thorough clinical assessment is usually enough to diagnose a tendinopathy. Imaging doesn’t always correlate with symptoms — some people have tendon changes on scans but no pain. If imaging is necessary, we’ll discuss it with you
Not at all! In fact, staying active is important — we just need to modify how you’re loading the tendon. You may need to temporarily reduce or adjust certain activities, but complete rest is rarely the answer. We’ll help you train smarter, not stop altogether
