Is Knee Pain Impacting Your Running?

Runner

Knee pain? Hip Pain? Ankle Pain? As a runner one of the most frustrating things on earth is getting an injury that not only stops you from enjoying your running but also causes your hard-earned progress to go backward. And for most of us, we decide to run through the pain until it eventually gets worse and we are forced to quit altogether!

Why Do I Keep Getting Knee Pain When Running?

There are many factors that could be contributing to why you keep getting injured whilst you are running. Some of the factors we look at are:

  • Footwear – have you changed shoes. Or do you NEED to change shoes?
  • Load management – Have you increased your time and distance during a lockdown? Too much too soon?
  • Type of running surface – Are you used to running on a treadmill and now are pounding the pavement
  • Injury history – Have you ignored a niggle and now its become an injury?
  • Running history/experience — Is running new to you?
  • Rest periods – are you giving your body a chance to rest between your running sessions?
  • Nutrition – Are you fueling your body to meet your exercise needs
