Shockwave Therapy may be the answer you are looking for?
What is Shockwave Therapy?
Shockwave therapy – also known as Extracorporeal Shockwave Therapy (ESWT) – has been used to treat musculoskeletal injuries since the early 90’s. Based on the medical procedure know as Lithotripsy (used to treat kidney stones). A non-invasive therapy that uses acoustic shockwaves delivered straight to the site of your pain. These sound waves kick starts the body’s natural healing process. Promoting pain relief as well as tendon remodelling and regeneration.
Most of our patients report a significant pain relief immediately after therapy. While Up to 85%% of patients report significant improvement in their tendon injury after a course of shockwave therapy.
What is involved?
Shockwaves are transmitted to the site of injury via a hand-piece held by the clinician. Initially there may be some discomfort, but this is short lived. Each treatment involves delivering 2500 pulsed shockwaves to the injury site. Typically most patients require 3-5 treatments. Often we see significant improvement and instant reduction in pain after the first session. It’s also important remember that the bodies natural healing process continues to occur after the shockwave treatment sessions.
